Pilsley is a former mining village located near Tibshelf. Although there are modern housing estates around, some old buildings survive such as the post office. The whole of Pilsley Colliery and all railway lines have been reclaimed.
Only a mile from Chatsworth, it has a charm all of its own in houses of warm-tinted stone and in wonderful views. Down below where the valley of the Derwent is rich in green meadows, and in a wealth of trees, nestles the pretty village of Baslow; while beyond, as far as we can see up the valley, great heights rise to sweeping moors; on one hand Longstone Edge, and Eyam Moor, on the other the Edges of Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt, carrying the eye along to Hathersage Moor, all especially beautiful when the heather is in bloom.
